Mr. Linden is responsible for the Technology co-ordination within the NOKIA Group at the company's headquarters in Helsinki, Finland. He is also a Board member of Nokia Telecommunications, Nokia Mobile Phones and INEL/MNT.
Mr. Linden graduated from Helsinki University of Technology in 1971. He made his Licentiate Thesis in 1975. He was doing research work on ISDN (Integrated Digital Transmission and Switching) in 1970-76. He joined TELEVA (now Nokia) in 1973 to start a project based on Time Division Multiplexing technique. This project continued as a new type of fully digital switching system and created the basis of the today's success of NOKIA's DX-200 switching family.
In 1977 he joined ITC (International Telecommunication Centre S.A.), the global Engineering Company of ITT in Brussels where he had several responsibilities both in Europe and the US in the global digital switching project called System 12. He moved back to Finland in 1981 to become Deputy Director of Operations at ITT Finland and was later appointed to the Board of Directors. In 1987 he was given the full P&L- responsibility of Sales&Marketing, R&D and Manufacturing of Audiocommunications product line.
He rejoined NOKIA in 1988. Mr. Linden was responsible for the global Research&Development -activities. R&D in NMP expanded during his leadership from Finland to the UK, Germany, the USA and Australia. He was also a member of the Executive Management Group of NMP. In 1992 he was appointed to Managing Director of Nokia Mobile Phones R&D (UK) and Technophone Ltd. in the UK while continuing as Senior Vice President, R&D. In the same year he was appointed also to Chairman of Board for both LK-Products and Advanced SAW Products SA. in Switzerland.
Mr. Linden was acting Director of NOKIA Research Centre
(NRC) from September 1994 till April 1995.
Mr. Linden is a member of High Level Strategy Group (HLSG) for European Information Infrastructure which consists of industrial executives from EACEM, ECTEL, EUROBIT, EBU and ETNO. He is presently the elected Chairman of the Group.
Mr. Linden is Chairman of Board of Institute of Radio Communication (IRC) with Helsinki University of Technology and also the Chairman of Executive Board of Institute of Telecommunication SW with HUT. He is also a member of Advisory Board to Oulu University and Chairman of Advisory Board of Telecommunication Section at Finnish Research Centre.
