The contents of the course
The contents of the lectures and exercises are here.
The main lines of the course are following:

Introduction to the course

Basics of signaling: R2, ISDN, YKM
2 Switches, reliability and synchronization

PCM
-
Switching matrixes and networks
-
Reliability of telecommunications networks

Synchronization of the switching systems
3 Signaling, continuation

Basics of signaling V5, MAP and H.323
4 Excursions and presentations:

Presentation of the telecommunications laboratory (DX 200-system and some
other systems)
The schedule of the exercises
Exercises will be in Fridays from 12am to - 2pm in the class room E110,
but replaced by lectures until to 1.Feb.99.
Material
The material for the course is the following:

Joseph Y. Hui: Switching and traffic theory for integrated broadband
networks chapters 1-5.

Roger L. Freeman: Telecommunications System Engineering 3rd ed. Chapters
4, 8, 9, 13 and 16. The foreign students
will also read chapter 15 as an introduction to ATM.

The additional information as photocopies (prujut in Finnish) will be partly
changed from the previous ones. More detailed information will be given
later on....

There are also the
transparencies of the lectures to available as PDF files. They will
be delivered also as "prujus".
Course requirements
To get credits from course, the examination after the course has to be
done accepted. The maximum score of the examination is 30 points,
and 50% as usually is the minimum requirement. Possible
exam questions from here...
The exercises will be marked also, and will affect to the score of the
examination by -3...+3 points.
