The course will be held in English. The course will be based on the book:

Steven M. Kay, Fundamentals of Statistical Signal Processing vol. II, Detection theory, Prentice Hall 1998.

The additional material in the seminar will be

S. Verdu, Multiuser Detection, Cambridge Univ. Press 1998.

The prerequisites for the course are the subjects covered by the following courses:

S-38.211 Signal Processing in Communications I (Signaalinkäsittely tietoliikenteessä I)
Tik-61.138 Signal Estimation and Filtering (Signaalien estimointi ja suodatus)
Tik-61.145 Basics of Digital Signal Processing (Signaalien digitaalisen käsittelyn perusteet)

Course grading will be based on

solving MATLAB exercises (1 during the seminar) and problems (1-2 for each chapter)
an oral presentation

each of which yields 50% of the total grade. In addition, extra points (upto 10% of the maximum) will be given based on the attendance to the lectures

The seminar will be held on Tuesdays 15.15-17.00. The location will be room G118.

Matlab exercise: 6.18, deadline 18.12. (MATLAB code and the resulting plot required)
